Good News and Therapy News

I saw my psychologist today and she's going to have me get into something called dialectical behavior therapy.  I'm not entirely sure what this entails even though I read about it in Wikipedia.  It's sort of like cognitive behavior therapy but there are some differences.  Since I'm a veteran it's being done through the VA.  But since the VA doesn't have any specialists in this discipline in my area, they're outsourcing it but it may be a while before I get to the front of the line.  We shall see what we shall see.

On the good news front, I'm finally getting my car fixed after three months.  It will be so nice to have wheels again, even though I'll be spending lots of money for gas.

  1. I like the new look of the blog Vern! If you don't mind, keep me updated on this new therapy. Hopefully they can hook you up with someone soon. I bet you will enjoy having your car back. It's nice to be able to do things without being dependent on someone or something's schedule.

  2. I have been through a ton of DBT work and it call definitely do wonders for some. I have no idea where you are and this is the first time I have come across your blog. McLean hospital in Belmont MA outside Boston has some serious specialty programs involving DBT. If you have a couple moments and can spare the cash I would highly recommend the" skills training manual for treating borderline personality disorder" by Marsha m. Linehan. It is the standard DBT workbook. Many people use DBT without bpd, but with depression, bipolar, anxiety and even addiction disorders. The book is dated in some ways ( check out the lists of pleasant activities for hits like buying records or lying in the sun). The book seems slanted towards women but I know men who have used it. You should be able to get the book from Amazon. Good luck!
